Rail works cut Nice to Digne line until Friday

Planned safety works have severed the scenic Chemins de Fer de Provence line for over two months. Here's what's replaced, what's not running, and when it clears.

The Chemins de Fer de Provence line linking Nice to Digne-les-Bains has had a section of track cut since May 7, as engineers carry out safety work on unstable rock faces above the line between Puget-Théniers and Annot. The works run until Friday, July 10.

Trains 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 and 11 are all affected, with journeys through the cut section replaced by buses. Only Puget-Théniers, Entrevaux and Annot are served by the substitute coaches, so passengers further along the line should check ahead before travelling.

Separately, and for the duration of the works, there's no train service at all between Nice and Lingostière on weekends and public holidays. Journeys instead start and end at Digne-les-Bains and Lingostière, meaning anyone travelling from Nice needs to factor in the bus shuttle connecting Crémat, Colomars and Lingostière via Saint-Isidore and Saint-Sauveur.

Several station ticket offices along the line have moved to temporary trackside units while works continue, including at Saint-André-les-Alpes, Thorame-Haute, Annot and Entrevaux. The Entrevaux office is closed entirely on 8 and 10 July.

The operator says normal service should resume once the works are complete, though anyone planning a journey on the line before then is advised to check current status at cpzou.fr before setting out.
