The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region will end its on-demand transport service, known as TAD, across the Alpes d'Azur intercommunality from Tuesday, September 1, according to France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The service is used by elderly residents in rural villages including La-Croix-sur-Roudoule to reach pharmacies, doctors and shops, France 3 reported.
Region vice-president Jean-Pierre Serrus said responsibility for organising the service passed to the intercommunality in 2021, and that the region had continued funding it for five years without being legally required to, according to ICI Azur. Charles-Ange Ginésy, who heads the Alpes d'Azur intercommunality and the department, disputes that account, and the region is reportedly considering legal action to recover funding paid over the period, Nice Premium reported.
Nice mayor Éric Ciotti has also weighed into the dispute, France 3 said. The cut comes alongside the previously announced withdrawal of the Cannes-Nice and Cannes-Grasse night bus lines, also effective from September.
