Nice hotels post strong July as short breaks reshape season

Nice hotels hit 92 per cent occupancy in July, but shorter stays and last-minute bookings are rewriting how the Riviera's high season works.

Hotel occupancy in Nice averaged 92% in July, up a point on July 2025, with more than 20 nights above 90% and a peak of 99% during two Weeknd concerts, according to figures reported by Petites Affiches des Alpes Maritimes. The extended July 14 holiday weekend was also a high point for the city's hotels.

Denis Del Rio, president of the Nice Côte d'Azur Tourism Office and deputy mayor for tourism and events, told Petites Affiches the season has been broadly stable, with visitor numbers up slightly but stays growing shorter and bookings arriving later. "We have, overall, strong stability, with an increase in footfall, but slightly shorter stays," he said.

Occupancy in furnished tourist rentals averaged around 69% in July, against 68% a year earlier, Del Rio's office reported. Major events including the Weeknd concerts, Nice Jazz Fest and the Ultra-Trail had a direct effect on both bookings and average room revenue, prompting Del Rio to argue the city should stage more of them.

Restaurants have fared less well, with lower footfall and spending attributed to pressure on household budgets, though no precise figures were available. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry, alongside Côte d'Azur France Tourisme and the tourism office, has launched a campaign called "On se fait un resto?" to support local restaurateurs in response.

Bookings for September and October are running high, Petites Affiches reported, pointing to a strong late season, while no direct drop in visitor numbers has yet been linked to recent heatwave conditions.
