Gendarmerie officers have dismantled a drug trafficking network operating across the Antibes and Cannes area following several months of investigation, resulting in six arrests and a significant seizure of narcotics.
Six people were detained by officers from the Cannes research brigade following the operation, which concluded a lengthy undercover inquiry into a network described as operating around the clock. One local source told ICI France Bleu Azur that the supply point functioned like a convenience store, with multiple substances available at any hour of the day or night.
The investigation had been running for several months before officers moved in. The Cannes and Antibes coastline, popular with both residents and tourists during the summer season, has been a recurring focus of law enforcement operations targeting drug supply chains in recent years.
The arrests follow a separate operation at the Port de Saint-Laurent-du-Var last weekend, in which tax inspectors, Urssaf officials and police targeted bars and restaurants in a pre-season sweep that included drug detection dogs and checks on employment records and electronic till certification. That operation was described by local authorities as preventive in nature and deliberately timed ahead of the peak summer influx.
