Two people were taken into police custody overnight after an attempted arson on the forest road at Nice's Mont Boron, mayor Éric Ciotti announced Thursday.
"An individual attempted to set fire to vegetation with a flammable liquid before fleeing," Ciotti wrote on social media, crediting the quick response of municipal and national police, backed by the city's surveillance centre, for the arrest of two suspects. No significant fire or damage was reported. The mayor praised the officers' intervention and pledged "zero tolerance" for arsonists threatening Nice's natural spaces.
