The accident happened shortly before 2pm on Friday, July 3. According to local reports, the young driver was behind the wheel of an electric microcar when the vehicle mounted the pavement and struck two pedestrians.
Emergency services were quickly called to the scene, with firefighters and officers from Monaco’s Sûreté Publique attending the incident.
All three people involved were injured, including the young driver and the two pedestrians. The severity of their injuries has not yet been officially confirmed.
Traffic in the area was disrupted while emergency services responded, with diversions put in place around Boulevard d’Italie. Motorists were advised to avoid the sector while the scene was being secured.
The circumstances of the accident remain under investigation.
The incident comes at a tense moment for Monaco, just days after the Principality was shaken by a separate explosion outside a residential building. Friday’s accident is not connected to that investigation, but it has added to an already unusually difficult week for emergency services in Monaco.
