Four people have been arrested following the discovery of ten kilos of ketamine concealed inside packets of cat food at La Colle-sur-Loup in the Alpes-Maritimes, the national gendarmerie announced on Friday.
The drugs were found hidden inside commercial pet food packaging, a concealment method that investigators said was designed to avoid detection during routine checks. The four suspects were detained by gendarmerie officers following the discovery earlier this week.
Ketamine, a dissociative anaesthetic used legally in medical settings, has become an increasingly common recreational drug across France and the Côte d'Azur. Its seizure in significant quantities suggests an organised supply operation rather than personal use.
La Colle-sur-Loup is a village in the hills above Antibes, between Nice and Cannes.
