Second shooting in a week rattles Cannes-La-Bocca residents

Gunfire returned to a Cannes-La-Bocca housing estate for the second time in a week, leaving residents describing a climate of fear and prompting extra night patrols.

Gunshots were heard again on the evening of Tuesday, September 1 at the Sainte-Jeanne residence in the La Frayère district of Cannes-La-Bocca, the second such incident in the same neighbourhood within a week, according to ICI. No injuries were reported.

Witnesses described two masked individuals fleeing the scene, reportedly carrying a long-barrelled weapon, according to Cannes Tendances. Investigators previously recovered shell casings at the same site after an earlier incident in which occupants of a vehicle opened fire toward a parking area at the junction of the residence's G, H and I buildings, 209.frreported, with a local resident linking the tension to drug trafficking in the area.

One resident, quoted anonymously by ICI, said she had not felt safe in the area in the twenty years she had lived there. "I'm mostly worried for the kids. It could have been a stray bullet and caused something serious," she said.

The mayor's office has announced additional night patrols in the sector, with two patrols now passing through La Frayère every 30 to 35 minutes, according to ICI. A public meeting on security was held in the area on Tuesday evening.
