Search resumes off Théoule coast for missing boater

A body sighting off the Théoule coast has reopened the search for a man missing since a boat collision left 11 injured last weekend.

Search operations resumed on Sunday, August 23 off Mandelieu-la-Napoule and Cannes after a report of a body sighted in the water, according to France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Rescue services carried out checks but had not confirmed the sighting as the missing man at the time of reporting.

The search relates to a collision between two pleasure boats off Théoule-sur-Mer on the night of Sunday, August 16, which left 11 people injured. Ten were taken to hospital in absolute or relative emergency condition, while one man remained unaccounted for, France 3 reported. A 22-year-old man went missing around 11pm during the incident, the outlet said.

Coastguard and rescue teams have continued searches in the area over the following week.
