Flyde, the drone delivery startup that made headlines flying champagne and caviar out to superyachts, is opening its first permanent Côte d'Azur launch base, with daily sea deliveries starting August 1.
"On the Côte d'Azur, Flyde is opening the first aerial drone delivery base at sea," founder Pierre Deyris said, according to Le Journal des Entreprises. The company, founded in 2022 by Deyris alongside co-founder Chahine Bouaiache under the name Drones for Yachts, has already run delivery bases across the Mediterranean in Corsica, Sardinia and Greece, offering vessels within 15 kilometres of the coast a delivery window of around 15 minutes once ordered.
The service has built its reputation on high end, low weight deliveries, with past drops including champagne, caviar and luxury goods to yachts anchored offshore, capped at five kilograms per flight for now, though the founders have said heavier deliveries of up to 40kg are under development. A dedicated Riviera base marks the company's first fixed presence in the region that inspired its original concept, rather than a seasonal or one-off operation.
