Police raid port bars ahead of summer season in Saint-Laurent-du-Var

Tax inspectors, Urssaf officials and police moved on the Côte d'Azur's busiest nightlife port in a coordinated pre-summer operation.

Officers from the tax authority, Urssaf and the financial brigade descended on four bars and restaurants at the Port de Saint-Laurent-du-Var in the early hours of Saturday morning, as part of a pre-season sweep targeting drugs, undeclared workers and cash irregularities.

The operation, carried out with prosecutor's authorisation according to France 3 Régions, included drug-detection dogs searching vehicles in the car park. Officers checked staff identity documents, employment contracts and electronic till certification, a mandatory record that confirms all payments have been properly declared.

Commissioner Laroze, responsible for the Cannes, Grasse and Antibes zone, said the operation was preventive in nature and timed deliberately before the peak summer influx. The mayor of Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Joseph Ségura, was present during the checks.
