Nice's CHU has installed a new high-technology MRI scanner at its Archet hospital, the only machine of its kind currently in service across the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, according to France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
The scanner cost 1.7 million euros and is expected to reduce the time needed to carry out imaging analyses while improving diagnostic precision, according to the hospital.
Next-generation 3 Tesla scanners of this kind typically use a stronger magnetic field than the standard 1.5 Tesla machines found in most hospitals, producing higher resolution images while cutting scan times by up to half, a combination that reduces how long patients spend inside the scanner while giving radiologists sharper detail for complex diagnoses.
The Archet hospital forms part of the CHU de Nice's wider network alongside the Pasteur 2 site, which already houses three MRI units among its broader imaging and surgical capacity.
The upgrade adds to a hospital system that has expanded its high end diagnostic and treatment capabilities in recent years, including more than 100 liver transplants carried out since 2024.
