A 16 year old boy has been placed under formal investigation and remanded in pre-trial detention over the alleged assault of a 15 year old girl aboard a Ouigo train travelling from Nice to Paris on the evening of June 27, the Paris prosecutor's office confirmed to Agence Radio France, as reported by FranceInfo.
According to the girl's account, she experienced a medical episode during the journey and sat down near the suspect, who was travelling in the same carriage. She has alleged he then threatened her with a knife before the two ended up in one of the train's toilets, where SNCF staff subsequently found them together. Staff handed the boy over to police when the train arrived at Paris' Gare de Lyon.
The suspect was held in police custody, extended through Sunday evening, before a judicial investigation was opened on June 30. He was formally charged the same day with rape under threat of a weapon and violence committed on public transport, and placed in pre-trial detention. As both parties are minors, no further identifying details have been released, and the case remains under investigation.
