Grasse's fire brigade found an unconventional way to promote its annual firefighters' ball this year, filming a parody of Dirty Dancing that has since drawn more than 500,000 views on Instagram within hours of being posted.
The video was made to advertise the traditional bal des pompiers, held August 15 as part of the town's wider Assomption weekend festivities alongside fireworks, concerts and family events across the Alpes-Maritimes. The firefighters' ball remains one of the more enduring French summer traditions, with brigades across the country hosting dances open to the public as both a community fixture and, often, a fundraiser for the service.
