Fraudster dupes two households in Villeneuve-Loubet sublet scam

A property owner in Villeneuve-Loubet returned from her summer let to find a second family living in her flat, after a fraudster posing as the landlord pocketed the rent and vanished.

A rental in Villeneuve-Loubet turned into a nightmare for the owner after a man posing as the property's landlord sublet it to a second family without her knowledge, according to France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The owner, named by the outlet as Rebecca Lagoutte, had let her fourth-floor, three-bedroom flat with a pool for the summer to help with her finances.

Lagoutte rented the property from May to August to a man she identified as German and named as Thomas B., France 3 reported. The tenant is then alleged to have sublet the flat to another family, collected cash payments from them, and become unreachable, leaving both Lagoutte and the second family caught in the fallout.
