While Nice held its tenth anniversary tribute in solemn silence, the rest of the Alpes-Maritimes marked Bastille Day with its traditional mix of fireworks and community celebrations.
Cannes' Festival d'Art Pyrotechnique staged its Bastille Day display at 11pm, part of a summer-long international competition that runs from July 4 to August 24 in the bay off the Croisette. Organisers had shifted the display back an hour out of respect for Nice's commemoration.
Antibes held its own fireworks display the night before, on July 13, along the seafront between the Fort Carré and the beaches of La Brague, while neighbouring Juan-les-Pins staged its pyromelodic show over the bay on the 14th itself, with the seafront turned pedestrian from late afternoon into the night.
Elsewhere along the coast, Menton's pedestrianised seafront hosted music and family activities from 6pm, followed by a fireworks display over the Baie du Soleil at 10.30pm. Villefranche-sur-Mer combined a community ball at the Théâtre de Verdure with a fireworks display over its harbour, while Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and Beaulieu-sur-Mer both held their own seafront displays and evening celebrations, continuing a tradition observed in villages and coastal towns across the department each July 14.
