The Organe de Sauvetage Écologique, a volunteer environmental cleanup association, carried out its final three operations in the Alpes-Maritimes this week, bringing an end to work it has carried out across the Côte d'Azur since 1992, according to France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
The association, known as OSE, is a non-profit recognised for its public interest work, running entirely on volunteer labour to clear rubbish from riverbanks and natural sites. Based primarily in the Île-de-France region, where it holds monthly cleanup operations, OSE has periodically extended its work into the PACA region since the early 1990s, collecting some 150 tonnes of waste nationally across 2025 alone.
The association said rising financial costs and a shrinking pool of volunteers had made continuing its Côte d'Azur missions unsustainable, bringing an end to more than three decades of intermittent work in the department.
