A Renault Zoé caught fire while plugged into a charging point at Mougins' Parking des Moulins early Tuesday morning, injuring two people and spreading to a neighbouring Tesla before firefighters brought the blaze under control.
The fire broke out just before 6am, with nineteen firefighters mobilised to the scene. A 40 year old man was affected by smoke inhalation after attempting to intervene, while a 34 year old municipal police officer was caught in the blast from the battery explosion and taken to hospital as a precaution. Firefighters carried out electrical isolation of both vehicles, cooled the batteries, and maintained thermal monitoring to prevent the fire reigniting.
Mougins mayor Christophe Ulivieri said on Facebook that initial examinations were reassuring, and that early findings suggested the fire originated in the vehicle itself rather than the charging station, though he cautioned it was too early to state this definitively. The precise cause remains under investigation.
