A security operation was launched in the heart of La Condamine shortly before midday on Wednesday, 15 July, after an abandoned bag was discovered near the market hall.
Public Security officers quickly sealed off Place d’Armes, temporarily closing the area to both pedestrians and vehicles while specialist bomb-disposal teams were called to investigate. The market was evacuated as a precaution, with access restricted while the object was examined.
Bomb-disposal specialists arrived at approximately 12.30pm and carried out a controlled destruction of the package after securing the surrounding area. The operation was completed without incident, allowing Place d’Armes and the Condamine Market to reopen shortly before 1pm. No injuries were reported.
Wednesday’s intervention came only one day after another suspicious object triggered a security response at Place des Moulins, marking the second precautionary bomb-squad deployment in the Principality within 24 hours.
Security remains notably heightened across Monaco following the parcel-bomb attack of 29 June. Since the incident, authorities have responded rapidly to reports of unattended bags and other unidentified objects, with public safety taking precedence even when an item ultimately proves harmless.
The Public Security Department has reminded residents and visitors not to leave luggage, bags or personal belongings unattended in public places. Items abandoned on public roads may also lead to fines, particularly when their discovery results in a major emergency response.
The speed of Wednesday’s operation meant disruption in La Condamine remained limited. Within little more than an hour, the security perimeter had been lifted and the district returned to normal.
For a Principality still processing the events of recent weeks, however, the response was a clear indication that no report is currently being taken lightly.
