Nice mayor Éric Ciotti has referred rapper Boro700 to France's public prosecutor over a track he says glorifies terrorism and threatens him and his predecessor Christian Estrosi by name, according to France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
The track, titled "MRH" after Mohamed Merah, the gunman behind the 2012 Toulouse and Montauban killings, has drawn more than 130,000 plays on Spotify. Ciotti's referral, sent to Nice's prosecutor, argues the song should be prosecuted for glorifying terrorism, citing references to the Bataclan attack and Salah Abdeslam alongside direct threats against himself and Estrosi. The rapper, who appears masked in all his public content, has not been publicly identified.
In his letter, Ciotti wrote that circulating such content "risks gravely harming the memory of terrorism's victims, normalising acts of extreme severity, and fuelling a climate of hatred and intimidation toward public officials." He separately wrote to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, urging the state to act firmly against the content. No prosecution decision has yet been announced.
