Cannes anti-drug operation in Ranguin district yields 79 arrests since launch

The préfet and mayor visited officers deployed daily against drug trafficking in the district, as part of the summer's stepped-up security presence.

Alpes-Maritimes préfet Jean-Marie Girier and Cannes' mayor visited the Ranguin district on Wednesday to meet national and municipal police officers deployed daily against drug trafficking in the area, as part of the department's summer security push.

According to the préfecture, 79 arrests have been made in the district since the operation began, part of a broader effort the préfet has flagged as a priority since taking office last month. Alongside the anti-trafficking presence, the préfecture has also used the summer period to warn residents about the health risks of nitrous oxide use at festivals and gatherings, citing risks including neurological problems, loss of consciousness and other serious complications, particularly during periods of extreme heat.
