Loïc Bruni, the Cagnes-sur-Mer born downhill mountain biking champion, says he's hopeful of returning to competition in August, months after a crash at Loudenvielle left him needing emergency wrist surgery.
The 31 year old, a five-time world champion, crashed heavily during timed training at the World Cup round in late May, initially clearing X-rays before a follow-up scan revealed a severe wrist dislocation requiring urgent surgery. Doctors advised a minimum three-month recovery, ending Bruni's season early at what had been a strong start, including a second-place overall finish the previous year.
"The hardest part is behind me now," Bruni said, as he targets a comeback for the Crankworx festival at Les Gets and the UCI World Championships later in August, both events he was forced to sit out entirely during his recovery.
