AS Cannes earns dramatic late equaliser in first Ligue 3 home match

Welsh loanee George Morgan struck seven minutes after coming on to salvage a 1-1 draw against Fleury, in front of nearly 4,000 fans at Stade Pierre de Coubertin, three months after pitch invasions celebrated the club's promotion.

AS Cannes earned a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser in its first Ligue 3 home match on Friday, drawing 1-1 with Fleury 91 in front of close to 4,000 supporters at Stade Pierre de Coubertin.

Fleury took the lead through Kevin Farade in first-half stoppage time, and the Cannois spent much of the second half chasing the score before 19 year old Welsh loanee George Morgan, on from Everton, levelled just seven minutes after coming on. The result follows a scoreless draw away at Rouen in the club's Ligue 3 opener the previous week.

Club general manager Antoine Gobin said the atmosphere reflected genuine momentum since May's promotion, when supporters invaded the pitch to celebrate the club's return to professional football for the first time in years. "We've already doubled our season ticket holders compared to last season, and we're hoping to triple that in the coming months," he said, adding the club expected between 3,500 and 4,500 fans for the fixture, among the higher attendances in the division. AS Cannes next travels to La Roche-sur-Yon on August 20.
