Armed man holds ex-partner hostage in Nice flat as RAID deployed

RAID officers negotiate with an armed man after he barricades himself in a Nice flat and fires twice inside the apartment, as residents are told to stay indoors.

An armed man barricaded himself inside a third-floor flat in the Riquier district of Nice on Tuesday afternoon, holding his former partner hostage before she managed to escape.

Officers from the RAID elite police unit were mobilised and a security perimeter established along the boulevard de Riquier, at the junction with boulevard Delfino. The man, armed with a .44 Magnum revolver, had barricaded himself inside a flat on the rue du Docteur Richielmi. His former partner, badly shaken, managed to escape before RAID arrived. Once on scene, officers heard the man fire twice inside the apartment. The Nice RAID unit entered into negotiations with the individual. The surrounding neighbourhood was completely sealed off, with residents unable to enter or leave their homes.

The situation was ongoing at the time of publication.
